Tantric Semen Retention involves critically examining the influences (cultural, societal, religious, and historical) that shape our understanding and practices related to sexuality, orgasm, and ejaculation. It involves questioning, challenging, and unlearning oppressive or restrictive narratives that may have been imposed by colonialism or patriarchal systems. Decolonizing practices of semen retention also involves honoring and respecting Indigenous knowledge and wisdom that may offer an alternative way of engaging with sexual energy. When seeking guidance and instruction for this practice, it is highly recommended that individuals work with a Lineage-Based professional whom is trauma-informed and operates under a code of ethics.
Did you know that Ejaculation and Orgasm are two separate functions of the nervous system?
Ejaculation is a function of the sympathetic nervous system (Daoist sexual yoga describes this as a reflex; similar to a sneeze) whereas, Orgasm is a peak of pleasure which can happen at various stages of arousal and can be sustained for long periods of time. Because of this separation in function, lingam owners have the capability of becoming multi-orgasmic by bypassing this SNS response.
What is Semen Retention?
Semen retention, simply put, is the practice of abstaining from ejaculation (not sexual activity) to conserve semen and redirect sexual energy into other areas of life, such as work, relationships, or creative pursuits. This tradition originated thousands of years ago from spiritual practices like Taoism and Tantra, which emphasize the importance of preserving and cultivating sexual energy to be averted towards personal growth and transformation; however, it has gained popularity over recent years due to social media challenges like #NoNutNovember.
Many individuals who practice semen retention also emphasize the importance of self-discipline and self-control, which can lead to a greater sense of empowerment and mastery over one's desires. It’s also worth noting that scientific evidence supporting these claims is scarce, and most studies on the topic are anecdotal rather than empirical. This practice is a personal choice and may not be suitable or beneficial for every-body. It is important to consult with a healthcare professional or a qualified practitioner before undertaking any significant changes to your sexual habits. Ultimately, the decision to explore semen retention should be made after careful consideration and with a focus on overall well-being and balance in life.
Disclaimer: If you are taking Flomax medication or suffer from medical conditions such as prostate cancer, prostatitis, UTI's, or blood in the urine; it is highly recommened that you do NOT engage in semen retention practices without the expressed approval from a trusted medical provider.
To effectively practice semen retention, it is essential to have a clear understanding of the reasons and goals behind it. Setting realistic and achievable targets, such as gradually lasting longer and expanding pleasure, can help maintain motivation and prevent potential frustrations. It is also important to engage in healthy coping mechanisms and activities to channel sexual energy and avoid excessive sexual tension. Engaging in regular exercise, meditation, creative pursuits, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can all contribute to a positive semen retention experience. Lastly, it is crucial to approach semen retention with a mindset of self-care and self-compassion. Balancing personal needs and desires while striving for personal growth and exploration is key in finding fulfillment and maximizing the potential benefits of semen retention.
The general rule of thumb is to ejaculate once every 4-6 weeks.
Why Retain Semen?
Immediately after ejaculatory orgasm, lingam owners often report feeling physically and energically depleted. Their body has exhausted its energy reserves by expelling semen without retaining any for cell replenishment. On average it takes 8 days for a lingam owner over the age of 35 to recover after ejaculating. Taoist tradition states that it takes 10 drops of food essence to make one (1) drop of blood and it takes one (1) cup of blood to make one (1) drop of semen. That's ALOT of vital life essence. On the otherhand, if the practitioner were NOT to ejaculate, the body would alternatively break down the semen and reabsorb it back into the body.

How does Semen Retention occur?
To understand the techniques of semen retention, we must first examine the internal anatomy of the lingam* and the process of ejaculation. For starters, sperm and semen are NOT the same thing. Sperm is the tadpole-shaped, microscopic male reproductive cell that comes from the testicles, whereas semen is the greyish-white bodily fluid that transports the sperm and comes from the seminal vesicles and prostate gland*. Semen contains a variety of macronutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and even vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, calcium, and magnesium. Sperm is part of semen, but semen is not part of sperm. The two come together during the first phase of ejaculation; the Emission phase. During this phase, the sperm is transported from the testicles up to the vas deferens and into the seminal vesicles and prostate. It is at this phase that semen retention can occur by retraining the Distal Sphincter (a valve on the outside of the prostate that regulates the flow of semen) to remain closed during orgasm (preventing semen from rushing out the urethra of the lingam) and only releasing after all contractions have stopped.
By now I’m sure you must be wondering, “How long does it take to become multi-orgasmic?”. Well like any new habit, there is no one number that fits every-body, as this depends on many individual factors such as age, overall health, personal semen retention practice and consistency, and other lifestyle habits like diet, exercise, stress levels, medication, smoking/drinking, etc. However, best results can be seen when practiced consistently under the guidance of a trained coach and can take a MINIMUM of 3-8 weeks to separate orgasm from ejaculation through the practice of semen retention.
Ejaculation occurs in two phases; the Emission Phase (when the sperm is coming up the vas deferens and mixes with the semen in the seminal vesicles and prostate) and the Expulsion Phase (when semen rushes out the urethra of the lingam).
Benefits of Semen Retention
Semen retention is the lingam owner’s literal life force and by retaining this life force it can be redistributed back into the body to aid in healing. Semen is said to be more precious than blood in the Taoist tradition. Some benefits that come from semen retention include:
Increase in energy
The safest form of birth control
Increase longevity of life
Rebuilds chi and balances hormones
Helps cultivate a healthy libido
Ejaculation Mastery is the 100% choice over when, where and how often you ejaculate

Decolonization is the reclaiming of Indigenous identity, knowledge, ceremony, traditions, and nationhood. It is about deconstructing (undoing and removing) the systems put in place by colonization.
